Soft, Sophisticated… Sockwell

When I started in the compression stocking business 15 years ago the style and color options were few and far between.  There were some cotton blends, but most were nylon and spandex  in beige and black.  The occasional customer would ask if we had anything fun or fashionable… patterns or stripes.  Back then the answer was “Sorry, no, but we will keep telling our manufacturers what you want.”

To our long-time customers who wanted variety, thank you for your persistence!  Today, there are stripes, patterns and a kaleidoscope of colors available from Rejuvahealth, Vim & Vigr, CEP, Juzo Dream Colors, and our newest line of stylish compression socks…. Sockwell.  The Sockwell designs and colors are comparatively muted and conservative, but convey a sophisticated and stylish edge.  Perhaps most importantly, the Sockwell weave includes luxurious fibers for maximum comfort.  I wore a pair of the Men’s Circulator Stripe on a recent cross-country trip to San Francisco.  They were made from merino wool, bamboo rayon, stretch nylon and spandex.   Beside the great fabric, Sockwells also have a lightly padded sole, arch support, non-binding welt to keep the socks comfortably in place, and a seamless toe closure.

Sockwell compression stockings are available for men and women in 15-20 and 20-30mmHg.

Letter from a Customer

Yesterday we received this really thoughtful and touching letter from one of our customers. Excuse us for being a bit corny, but knowing that we can make a difference in someone’s life by providing affordable, high quality products keeps us coming to work every day!

Dear BrightLife Direct,

I have been thinking about writing this email for a long time, and now I am finally sitting down to do it! I live here in Washington, DC (though I am moving to Massachusetts this month) and BrightLife Direct has become a big part of my life over the last few years.

I have always had problems with my circulation, and when I was 22 I developed a varicose vein in my left leg. I didn’t really know what to do or why it happened, and I felt too embarrassed to ask anyone about it. Most of the jobs I have had require me to be on my feet for 8 hours a day, standing on hard floors most of the time. So I tried to ignore it for years. The vein only got worse. When I was 25, I had pain in my legs and I had a positive D-dimer test in the ER. Luckily, the doctors determined that I did not have a blood clot, but venous insufficiency. When I found out that I was going to have to wear 20-30mmHg compression stockings every day and/or have laser ablation of the bad vein, I cried! My legs are my best feature, and now I had to cover them up.

My doctor told me I needed to get fitted for stockings, and the Internet turned up BrightLife. I got right on the train and went to Van Ness and with tears still in my eyes arrived at BrightLife! The staff who was there that day, this was I guess in May of 2012, were so nice and helpful. Later that day, when I donned the stockings for the first time, I could not believe the change I felt.

I have worn Allegro stockings for over two years now, and a lot has changed. I’ve lost and kept off 50 lbs because for the first time I was able to exercise without being in pain. I am excited to see all the new, fun styles that BrightLife has and I hope to eventually buy some of the fancier stockings! Allegro stockings are such a great value. I have directed a lot of my coworkers and friends to BrightLife over the last two years, and it makes me happy to be able to introduce people to a great company that will improve their quality of life.

What started off as a burden I was going to have to learn to live with has since become a way of life. I am including a photo of my legs taken at the Capitol (where I work as a tour guide) in one of the solid marble bathtubs installed for the Senators back in the 1870s (they don’t use them anymore!). I never thought I would be writing this kind of a email to a company, but I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate the work you all do (every package arrives so quickly!) and the products that you provide. If you ever need a spokesperson, let me know!
